Who manufactures the display for the iPad 3?
There is a lot of confused information circulating around the Web regarding who manufactures the iPad 3 display. Some sources name Samsung and LG as suppliers, while others name Sharp.
As we previously reported, in Sharp’s official statement about the new generation IGZO panels, it was clear that supplier will ship huge volumes of displays this month to its major client—although the CEO of Sharp did not name the client during the conference call, we know that this is Apple.
Now, the latest leaks coming from China admittedly haven’t been bring news as such, but they claim Samsung is the manufacturer of the third-generation iPad display. App.wepost.me posted some blurry images—which can hint at many thoughts—originating from a Radiant Opto-Electronics factory in Wujiang, China. The interesting thing is that while they claim the factory has tight security measures around the four units where the iPad 3 displays are allegedly manufactured, someone managed to grab a load of pictures that confirm Samsung as the supplier. What if this is just a stock game?
“The screen is reportedly coded J2, a possible reference to the rumored codename for one model of the next-generation iPad. Shipments of the finished components were marked with the Samsung logo, and even sealed with Samsung tape,” AppleInsider states.
The information leaks also describe how the displays will get to Samsung’s headquarters in South Korea, in order to get back to Foxconn. Well, this all sounds somewhat too awkward and costly.
